About MogForge

An independent World of Warcraft transmog search and outfit-building project.

MogForge helps players discover appearances by item type, equipment slot, color and acquisition source, then combine them in a character preview and export the result to the in-game Dressing Room.

How the catalogue is built

World of Warcraft game data is retrieved through the official Blizzard Developer APIs. MogForge does not scrape Wowhead. Item records are grouped by visual appearance and processed into a searchable catalogue. Acquisition records are classified into categories such as raid, dungeon, quest, vendor, crafted, PvP, achievement, Trading Post and world drop.

Color matching

MogForge renders catalogue appearances against controlled backgrounds and measures the visible color distribution of each result. The search tools compare those measured colors rather than relying only on item names. Main colors and smaller accents can be weighted differently, and the recommendation panel can favor colors from selected outfit slots.

Recommendations and sets

Recommendations combine color similarity, equipment compatibility and the currently selected character. When “Include same set” is enabled, compatible pieces from the same verified set family are placed first; other matching appearances remain available. Class restrictions, armor type and weapon compatibility are applied independently from visual similarity.

Sources and limitations

Game data, models and acquisition information can change between patches. Some appearances have several valid acquisition methods, while older or newly released items may initially have incomplete information. MogForge distinguishes automatically indexed source records from manually reviewed additions and only labels an alternative source as verified when it passed that review process.
